Sara Kolcsey-Gyurko
“At the age of 32, after the birth of my fourth child, I learned the basics of photography in a self-taught manner. In the first years, I became a leading representative of documentary family photography, which was still little known in our country at that time, and I documented the everyday lives of many families.
After graduating from high school, I was a student of the English department of the PTE BTK until 2007, but the arrival of my children unfortunately did not allow me to complete my studies. In 2020, I completed the Photographer's Vocational Training in Pécs, organized by the Perfekt Education Center, with an excellent certificate.
My style is mostly characterized by documentary style features, but I also like to experiment with the tools of conceptual photography. In addition to commissions, I also work on several long-term projects that are closely related to my own life events. At the center of these are motherhood, the challenge of being a woman, and I am curiously researching the nature of the female body and its representation in consumer culture. My works have been awarded several times at the Hungarian Press Photo exhibition and the international Documentary Family Awards. With the project I wanted to apply for, which deals with the topic of pregnancy, childbirth, and birth, I was accepted to the Nikon Noor Academy workshop in Budapest, which will be held in April this year.”

Sara Kolcsey-Gyurko
