Bence Knyihar
Bence Knyihár aims to preserve painting as a medium from several angles, examining the material components of the painting as well as exploring the relationship between the work and its author. His latest, minimalist paintings reduce to essential elements – colors, brushstrokes, canvas – and depict rhythmic lines and perforations with performative gestures.
Born in the search for the roots of painting, the materiality of his works is both a symbol and a metaphor for physical matter and carefully controlled gesture. An event or happening within which the artist – beyond the position of the individual – reveals himself, precipitated in the fateful meeting of the paint stripes, summed up on the surface of the canvas. Freed from the burden of stories and theories, the work thus compels both the artist and the viewer to become aware of the inner presence.
