Erik Feathers
In his works, Erik Tollas explores the visual and conceptual painting possibilities of the visible and invisible.
The canvas as a body and the brushstroke as a stain, a stamp, became a visual passion for him. Mistakes and covering up, overwriting, led to thousands of patterns in some of his paintings.
He created the present of the artist and the painting, brushstroke by brushstroke, a method that captured the opposition of time and space, with the intensity of contrast and colors.
The search for one's own identity and the intertwining of painting possibilities brought the Gipsv vacui series to life. The signs were purified into dots from the harmony of dance, clothing, and color dynamics.
His most recent works point towards a new direction for him, he is concerned with the totem as a system of signs and its various abstractions, where the work becomes the pure nature of color and form through the conscious reduction of gesture. The destruction of man is projected in the macrocosm ignored by man, the inestimableness of the worthless is strained by the intangibility of the treasure, and this changed microcosm is reflected in the landscape. In his latest series, he presents his thoughts reflecting on this, which further leads to the following points of search. The art ensemble is a poem, and the poem is in the relationship of the art ensemble. For him, this work is like a sacrificial offering to Mother Earth.
In the land of strawberry seed kisses
Worms burrowed into my flesh
When I open my eyes
Yesterday is burning with flames
Water washes the horizon
I surrender my peace to the depths of the well
The miracle is fading away
